STIs are sexually transmitted infections, and it is important that they be detected in a timely manner.

 

Most STIs show no obvious signs of their presence, especially at the beginning of the infection. That is how infected people end up transmitting their infection without realizing it. Hence the importance of STI testing.

 

The best way to protect oneself against STIs is prevention, followed by testing.  We promote safe sex practices: the latex condoms are the most effective barrier against STIs for men and women.

 

STI tests are done by a health and social services professional to determine whether or not an individual has a sexually transmitted infection. Blood and urine samples and swabs of genital secretions are taken and sent for analysis to a laboratory. A STI test should be requested after any unprotected (i.e. unsafe) sexual intercourse.

 

After an STI test, our doctors continue to follow closely. Our nurses are on duty all week and are able to renew your prescriptions and deal with other medico-administrative formalities for you.

 

Clinique Élite has its own sample collection centres for STI testing.
